We Are Destroying Jesus: A Christian Woman’s Warning About the "Convention of States" and the Hijacking of Freedom

There is a growing conversation in America right now, one that’s being quietly encouraged in churches, promoted on Fox News, CBN, and many of our churches around the United States, and wrapped in patriotic language through media. On the surface, it sounds like a noble mission; to “restore liberty” and “return to our Founding Fathers’ intent.” But dig deeper, and you’ll see what it really is.

It’s called the "Convention of States", and it is not a restoration. It is a legal and spiritual coup. It’s a tool being used to dismantle our Constitution, hijack Christianity, and silence freedom under the disguise of righteousness. Most of all it is a psychological warfare maneuver to influence the masses, and hurt different kinds of people.

Let me say this first, I am a Christian. A real one. I walk with my Bible every day. I read it with my child every day. I build my faith not on the flesh of other people but on my personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That’s what faith is. What’s being promoted today, that’s not faith, it’s religion. And it’s religion being used as a weapon.

We, as Christians, are destroying Jesus in America. And the "Convention of States" is one of the tools being used to do it. It is the foundation of what has been happening for generations since Confederacy and confusion of what Christianity is in our society. We never had a term for it, and over time the "concept" of this has taken a life of its own; hence, the fact of Heritage Foundation created.

Our Constitution was designed to protect all of us. It was written after the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and ratified in 1787 to build a foundation of liberty, not dominance. It intentionally separated church from state to avoid the religious oppression our ancestors fled from. The First Amendment is clear, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” That means freedom of religion, and freedom from it too. That’s not anti-Christian. That’s what allows all of us to live in peace.

The Convention of States, backed by the Heritage Foundation, ALEC, and Fox News personalities, wants to use Article V to call a constitutional convention and rewrite the entire document. They want to reduce federal power, eliminate civil rights protections, reframe public education through conservative doctrine, and give more control to state governments that are already gerrymandered and controlled by extremist ideologies. And they are disguising it with soft music, patriotic phrases, and words like liberty and family. But when you look at the fruit, it’s rotten.

I didn’t come to Christ through fear or politics. I came through love, pain, and personal revelation. I didn’t need a man behind a pulpit telling me I was dirty. I needed Jesus to show me I was worthy. And He did.

But today, we’re seeing churches use fear as a tool. They preach that people are coming for your children, that if you vote wrong your soul is in danger, that your faith is tied to your political loyalty. That isn’t preaching. That’s propaganda. That’s psychological warfare. It’s grooming people to follow politicians, not the Holy Spirit.

I remember sitting in a living room with a friend. They had Fox News on. At first, I didn’t think much of it. But as I sat and listened, I started hearing the mocking, the rudeness, the constant spin of half-truths designed to rile up anger and close people’s minds. Yet, these people called themselves "righteous", or "Christian". They weren’t reporting, they were performing. And my friend, kind, generous, faithful, was nodding along like it was truth. No questions, no research, just acceptance.

That devastated me.

Because I watched someone I loved become hardened, misled by a network designed to provoke fear and validate control. And then I watched that same rhetoric show up in their churches, in their votes, in the way they talked about people who didn’t believe the same way. It wasn’t just about “beliefs” anymore, it was about dominance. And that’s not Christianity. That’s empire.

It is a scary "empire"...not Christian, or Jesus at all.

Jesus didn’t force Himself on people. He didn’t use the law to punish difference. He didn’t smirk on a news broadcast while mocking the sick, the immigrant, the poor, or the stranger. He walked with them. He fed them. He saw them. Yes, he was not always perfect. Jesus is the flesh of God. God is not all happy individual as a Christian. Who are we to say what God is, or not? Yet, all of us as humans seem to think it is OK to talk, make laws, and force others into him.

We should be ashamed of ourselves. I am devastated by my peers.

Today, churches have traded that Jesus for something else. They are building platforms instead of altars. They are passing laws instead of washing feet. And I have to say it ; we are destroying Jesus in this country. Not His divinity, no one can take that from Him, but His witness. His truth. His love.

It isn't the other way around that the "sinners" are destroying. Now it is all of these types of Christians that are destroying their own darn "concept" of Jesus.

That is not Jesus, and even God.

Bad people are using God to help you destroy our freedoms, and the US. Constitution that was meant for "We The People".

I would rather live in a world of sinners than in a world where freedom is gone. I would rather walk beside someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus but still respects freedom than with someone who uses Jesus to take it away. Because I’ve seen the judgment, the abuse, the lack of empathy that has come out of the church. I’ve seen the way history is erased, the way people are shamed, the way different is treated as dangerous. That is not what Jesus taught.

What we are seeing is not revival, it is radicalization. Nationalism is not patriotism. Patriotism defends everyone’s freedom, even when we disagree. Nationalism demands conformity, obedience, and silence. And the Convention of States, combined with the Christian nationalist movement, is walking us into authoritarianism under the flag of faith.

The same people who screamed “fake news” are the ones glued to Fox News every night, believing every word, never asking where the sources are, never questioning the hate. And when someone tries to speak up or bring facts, they are mocked and called the enemy. This is how propaganda works. Not with facts, but with feelings. Not with truth, but with repetition. Not with unity, but with division.

Some of the greatest enemies of Jesus today are the ones who use His name the loudest. If that stings, sit with it. Ask yourself, is what I believe helping me love people better? Or does it just make me feel more right?

I didn’t choose this path for popularity. I chose it because Jesus walked it first. And I will keep choosing it, even if it means losing the approval of churches that care more about control than compassion. I would rather be on the outside with Jesus than on the inside with empire.

So I’m saying this loud and clear, with love and conviction. The Convention of States is not a harmless idea. It is a strategic effort to destroy the Constitution, enforce one ideology, and erase freedoms under the name of God. It is spiritual corruption. And if we don’t stand up now — as believers, as citizens, as human beings — we will lose the very freedom Jesus died to protect.

We can no longer afford to be silent. Not when they are using our faith to hurt others. Not when they are rewriting our laws to control. Not when they are destroying Jesus in our name.

Let love be louder than fear. Let faith be stronger than politics. And let Jesus, the real Jesus, not the Americanized version, lead us back to truth.
